Are you an avid photographer?

The RMP is holding its Annual photo competition this June

The 7 categories are Macro, Invertebrates, Black and White, Reef Inhabitants, Divers, Conservation in Action/ Reefs at Risk, and Best Find. We will also have a new category for Best Find.
Competitors may only enter 7 photos and all entries must be emailed to info@roatanmarinepark.net by July 1st.

Best Find will be determined by number of Facebook Votes. The other categories will be judged by independent photographers and the winners will appear in the 2013 RMP calendar.

The photos can only be taken around Roatan and all entries must have a name, subject, location, category and camera used.

Good luck and happy snapping

So I wonder if "Best find" might include the tripleXXX DVD's found flung on the reek, Or Maybe the RECO Transformers that were bad, stripped out and left to bleed their oil among mangroves, or maybe the tightly wrapped "bricks" of what seemed like tlcum powder. I do have pictures of some of these things, would it be considered? If the "best find" as voted on in facebook is hottie diving in a wicked weasel bikini will you seriously publish it? Also, You say only 7 entries, you do not say whether those entries have to be one in each category, You might want to clarify, You should also consider announcing the names and association of your " independent photographers" I take it they and anyone affiliated with them are not allowed in this contest or will it become a contest of their peers" Are any of these independent folks pblished and well respected in the UW Photo community such as so many in the Caymans and Key's? Or is it just a click of folks with cameras? How Many of these "independent photographers" ever shot film?
Please, If your going to have a contest, make sure to be specific, up front and honest, We all know how you have stretched the rules in the past "contests" and how "winners" were affiliated. Exactly what date can we see results? will they be posted here on that date?

You know, it just doesn't seem that we are given any incentive to send any photos for "consideration" in this "contest." What's in it for us? Will they actually give us a free calendar or what?

In response to your questions, the Best Find will be in relation to organisms found by divers and snorkelers and won't be judged on financial resale value. Photos of RECO transformers leaking oil into the mangroves would fit into the Reefs at Risk category and not so much best find, and anyone in a bikini will be in the Divers category.
Etrants can submit a total of 7 photos which can be in as few or as many categories as they wish. You can send only divers, black and white, the choice is yours, as long as you state what category they are in. Voting for Best Find will be the only category voted for by the general public. Since we started this competition 4 years ago, we have used numerous judges to help choose the winners. Apart from last year's contest, we have used professional underwater and terrestrial photographers to judge the contest and have done so with no knowledge of who sent the entries in. We will have to crop any photos that have any logos or names when judging occurs.
This year, we already have confirmation from Tim Blanton from CocoView to be a judge and have several others in the pipe line. We would be happy to receive any suggestions regarding other suitable judges. Considering there will be 4 judges in total, there will be no need to ban their friends and families from the competition as they will still be judged by the other 3.
In regards to what's in it for you, we will provide winners of each category with a calendar. Considering we are an NGO working to protect the reefs around Roatan, we use the money from calendar sales to help fund our projects. We are a non profit and operate through the help of our supporters so can offer some reward for entrants, but this is sadly limited.

Can we also enter images found on your website promoting products that have NEVER ben tested for environment safety NOR ever IMG_01271.jpgbeen tested by any health agency to say they work?
The Cactus Juice is not allowed to be sold as a repellent in any first world country, it is sold as a skin conditioner, That way they do not need to be tested, P92803181.jpg
The same can be said for your Bodyguard. You tell people DEET is no good but promote items that have never needed testing. I want to submit these two images tou your contest in whatever group they fit best,

Great to see another constructive post from the Roatan welcoming committee. I do not understand why this board is not more active.

...I do not understand why this board is not more active.

It's fairly active, compared to any other forum dedicated to one small bit of land with comparatively few divers visiting.

And remember~ behind many a veiled sarcasm... there is likely a truth.

I believe the activity all goes through phases, This place was rockin when a popular resort and those affiliated in one way or another were promoting various things, Now that has slowed and so have some posts but i believe a large part of that is that people have learned to use the SEARCH feature, If you look through the archives is there any question that may be asked that hasn't already been answered by those so dedicated to this forum ?

Tough crowd.
