Have I been duped???

IFinally, and again, not accusing anyone of anything, just offering up a possible "other side of the story", how do we know the accounts of this story went exactly as stated? Without hearing or knowing the shops story, its unfair to pass judgment.

Well he didn't name names, so it doesn't not appear that he is trying to hurt someone's business by posting stuff about them by name on the net.

Second, the story he tells has been told many times before by other people about poor treatment at their LDS. It is the reason online stores are doing so well.

What about his story seems unreasonable or beyond the possibility of actually happening?

It would not be the first time someone tried to pull the wool over someones eyes when they thought they could get away with it. It reminds me of when I purchased my first car brand new from the dealer. After a few weeks all the black paint on car door window frame began to flake off. I took it back to the dealer. They told me it was my fault for leaving the car outside. I got very loud in the sales area of the dealership and explained that a car was an outdoor product meant to be used outdoors. Since I was talking in a loud bold manner--not hateful mind you, but lound and projecting-- my degree is in public speaking and I learned how to project my voice in an areana that seats 7500 people and was taught how to project my voice in a manner so that those in the back could hear without me using a mic--- so when I began to talk in a projecting manner they quickly offered to take care of me and even offered me a free loaner while the car was fixed. I did not yell, but like I said projected and laid out my case and low and behold they got very helpful. When the air conditioner started pouring water on my foot in the floorboard, then next time I came back for a repair that was covered they remembered me and just fixed the problem. It is not supposed to drain inside the car but rather on the ground. By the way, that dealer went out of business a few years ago--I really wonder why? I am sure I was the only person on which they tried to pull such a stunt! LOL

I have to agree that it's so important to test your gear before a trip, and especially after service. Our LDS tells us to use the pool and test everything after service and if there's anything wrong, it's fixed/tweaked under the original service contract (no extra charge). It's also important to do your own inspection, making sure hoses are tight, etc.

You need to find a LDS that you can trust and give you the service you deserve for your money. My old LDS in Chicago insisted that you check out your gear in the pool before you left the shop. Why would you leave for a vacation that you are spending so much money for and not check out your gear first? My thoughts......the LDS screwed you...you screwed yourself by not taking responsibility and checking out your gear. Are we not told this in our training?

Back to the original post. The dudes wife hit it right on the nose, find another shop to pour your fortunes in to. However, learn this lesson. "Anything promised should always be in writing."

closure has been met.

recently i received a letter from the owner of lds #2.
his letter stated that he was sorry.
he offered for me to sit in on one of his equipment classes, hands on and free.

the letter also contained a gift certificate of $130.
he stated that the gift would be put towards any additional padi classes that i may take.

i feel this gentleman has stepped up to the bar.
i feel he was being a profesional by sending the letter.

i feel that i must post this to be fair and to inform board members.

Please don't tell me you are actually going to go back and do any sort of business with this shop, free or otherwise.

As they say, fool me once, shame on them fool me twice (or eight times) shame on me.

For you sake, I hope I don't see this thread bumped again in 6 months with another story of woe.
