Need help....I own an old BCD from IDI (stands for Int'l Divers Inc) and the harness was torn apart from the BC during my last dive trip. Wanted to check if anyone knows where i can get replacement alternatives?? I suspect the manufacturer is no longer in existence..

Thanks.

According to Scuba.com they went out of business five years ago. XS Scuba seems to have bought the rights to make some of the IDI fins, but it doesn't look good for your BCD.

Just a suggestion, if you dove a BP/W the cost of replacing the harness would be $10-$15 plus your time to rethread it. Something to consider if you are in the market for a replacement.

Yes, IDI went out of business some time back, the BCs were made by a few differant companies over the life of IDI - most were just Generic models from manufacturers like Custom Bouyancy so you MAY find a similar BC around if you look hard and long enough to salvage spares from, but personally I think its a long shot, - you may have to bite the bullet and look for a new one.!

I have an IDI Nekton 2000 that started to separate where the shoulder straps attach. I took it to a sailmaker who fixed it for just a few bucks.

from where i am based, may not be easy to find a sailmaker, but it is still a good suggestion, i will check the yellow pages..

the only thing that seem ok is the bladder. i was thinking of reattaching a new BP and new webbing, but wonder if that is feasible...

The backplate and webbing is quite easy to obtain, its the attaching that may be an issue.
If you dont find a sailmaker, look for a shoe repair facility, they use heavy duty sewing machines to attach and repair shoes, I would just mark the areas to stitch very well, maybe hang around and supervise :D one needle prick in the bladder and its toast.

I think it could be done quite easily, if you can spare the time to do the "leg work" - might be a nice little project to post the progress here.?

It probably depends on the BC materials and hole location, but on that IDI jacket I had I repaired some scrape punctures in the bladder with glue and a patch meant for PVC boats. I That repair was airtight for the many years I continued to use the BC. The sew-job held up too. Good suggestion about the shoe repair place. Isn't Singapore a big sailing and textile manufacturing spot? There must be upholstery, awning, backpack, drapery, duffel bag, maybe even BC makers there.

Singapore is a sailing spot but not a textile manufacturing centre. Shoe repair services are definitely plentiful around the island.. will try them out. Thanks.
