I just found SB and have spent a few hours reading through the different forums. I started diving in May 2004. I took my Open Water course on Utila, Honduras with the Utila Dive Center. They did a great job to hook me in!! I'm starting the year out diving style. I'm a week out from another trip to Utila. I believe I'll take my Advance Open Water course. Utila is a great place to dive!! Hard to get there, but worth it.

Well, I look forward to meeting many of you through SB. BTW - anybody got any suggestions on any dive sites in Georgia? All my searches find sites in other states. Georgia does not have one that I know of. . .
Have a good 2005.

Hey Fellow Georgian, Welcome to Scubaboard. As you have already found out this is an excellent community with so much information available that sometimes it gives me headaches. :) I live about 30 minutes north of Atlanta in Woodstock, GA. Today a group of about 7 of us went out and dove Lake Lanier. It really is about the only place to dive around here. The water was about 48F, and viz was around the 15 foot mark. There is all sorts of crazy stuff under the lake if you can get out to the sites to dive it. You can also do a shore dive (like we did today), and it costs $3 to get into the lake. Quite a bit of fun if you are just looking for someplace close to get wet (and don't mind cold water.. :). Other than lanier most people go out to the quarries in Alabama, Lake Jocassee/Keowee in SC, or head to the panhandle. In the panhandle there is morrison springs, vortex springs, crypress springs, destin, pensacola, Panama City Beach, as well as other spots. If you are ever interested in any lake diving or any local diving drop me a PM here and maybe we could get something together. As already stated there is a forum for deep dixie divers as well as the florida conch divers. There is also a forum for the North Carolina Wreck Divers. North Carolina is always a choice for some great wreck diving. Have fun and I hope you enjoy your next trip to Utila (I know you will.. :).
