After reading that another diver dies at Dutch Springs, the thought of quarries being haunted comes to mind. Every year it seems that another diver dies at Dutch springs. (please note that around here we call it the disney park of diving) I have heard stories of divers in other quarries feel like something is pulling them down, and some have even said of seeing ghostly figures. Could it be that someone died at the quarries when they were opperational and is roaming the grounds, or is it bad scuba skills that are killing these divers.

Yeah. I understand that Dutch Ssprings is the home of Capt. Nemo and his pet giant octopus. They are living in a submergable flying saucer from Mars. With them are all the dufuses who bought into the idea that there was a space ship behind the Shoemaker/Levy comet along with Amelia Earhart. Nostradamus is leader of the pack. I think that Jesus (Lopez) might be along for the ride too. BEEEEEEEE careful down there sports fans.

Skills, fitness, not staying within ones abilities and chaos are the threats.

For a diver accustomed to shore entries or clear water with a visible bottom being in a quarry with nothing but depth and darkness below can quicly result in lost orientation and loss of control. Once you venture from the training platforms and shallows a good argument could be made that quarries can be the most challenging OW enviornments. Poor or marginal buoyancy control will haunt a diver in these conditions. The addition of attractions only adds to the illusion. I have been in several New England quarries and it's not a day at the beach. I'm looking forward to diving White Star and Gilboa in Ohio this weekend.

spectrum: On a serious note, go to Google, type in "Gilboa deaths" and read about the divers who died there this summer. The deep water is always cold, around 38-39 degrees. Regs need to be approved for cold water even in the summertime. You probably already know this but just in case...........

I had a feeling once I was being pulled down only to realize I was stupidly overweighted demoing a BP & wings.

My buddy had the same problem on a night dive once only to realize our flag had snagged a fishermans line.

Cant rule out hauntedness though on just my experiences.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes I followed those events. We're traveling with our Sherwood Blizzard and Phoenix Royal Aqua Master. That's about as good as it gets in cold water. We see the 30's here at home too.

Just to keep things interesting and seeing tomorrow is Halloween:

I don't believe in ghosts. When you die, you go to heaven or hell. Now, what is up with these hauntings? Objects and places can be demonized or demon attached or attracted by horrific spiritual sinful acts and rituals. Now, whether anything like these acts or rituals occurred at any quarries, I could not say. However, I will say that just because someone tragically drowns there, does not haunt the place.

Bottom line, do not worry or be distracted about ghost divers when you dive. There is enough to think with your safety on a dive.

The usual cause for diver fatalities is diver error or equipment failure. I don't believe in haunted waters.

This spooky lady haunts the waters at Shaw's Cove in Laguna Beach, CA... She hasn't tried to drown me yet, but that's just cause she doesn't know me as well as my wife does...
