DEMA recently had a "Manufacturers Forum" in San Diego, a select group of folks were invited, expenses paid by DEMA.

We are dues paying members of DEMA, we were not even informed such a meeting was taking place. DEMA could have, at least, asked for our input via phone/e-mail/etc.

...noticed the vid said PADI trains a million new divers annually...but heck, don't like a million divers also drop out of the sport annually too ?

.....also, given the world economic crisis and the fundamental changes occuring in housing values....high paying jobs destruction...meltdown of retirement portfolios/stocks...the record levels of government debt, and the resulting inevitable much higher taxes on the horizon....airlines fare hikes/capacity cuts.....not to mention the ongoing decline/destruction of the world's oceans/fisheries/reefs due to pollution/global warming/overfishing/over development.....let's just say scuba diving industry is facing one heck of a headwind going forward !

If you are careful about **who** you ask for input you never have to deal with
dissenting opinions.......

Well when you just invite the choir everyone is singing the same song. We paid for the air fare and the lunch and dinner and hotel. They had a good time slapping each other on the back. Nothing has changed.

Sorry Mike you're wrong, something has changed. People in the industry aren't willing to look away as our dealers and us have our membership money wasted. People that don't normally agree are in lockstep on the misdirection and agree in disgust with the actions of the few.

Some people forget that the dive industry is the dealer in upper rubber boot nowhere, struggling on a good year to make a living wage, the same guy right now is enjoying being near broke because of the economy and the misdirection those "in the club" have demanded of the dealers. Well now that guy is really pissed, you see he didn't pay his taxes because he couldn't, but he paid his DEMA dues so he could hope that somebody out there cares. Last week while that dealer worried about how to put food on the family plate certain "elite" flew on that dealers dime to the Sheraton Harbor in San Diego, a BEAUTIFUL Hotel and enjoyed free meals and all the trimmings. They would determine the direction of the association and the show...... except they forgot the industry does NOT belong to them. It is time they are reminded, and in that action the industry will grow, not a few ticks getting fat.

Bravo!

DEMA may have allowed them to use footage in exchange for the Be A Diver plug, but I just don't see them paying for the entire thing.

It seems to me like some people are going out of their way to try to cause drama...

:)

The following allegations have been made, and as far as I know have not been refuted.

1) DEMA is offering discount (or free) booths to a select group of member Companies, the cost of which is paid out of membership dues.

2) DEMA puts on an expense paid meeting for a Select group of member Companies,
the cost of which is paid out of membership dues.

Now we are to believe that a video that promotes a Select Group of member Companies did not include any costs paid from DEMA membership dues.

Why would reasonable people draw that conclusion?

I raised a storm earlier this year and have been assired that we all pay the same per foot for the DEMA show, however the certeian consessions come in things like free classrom/seminar space, free "sponsorship" of certain activities etc. at the show. In other words if I want a seminar at the show I pay thru the nose for the space, if a BIG company that said they weren't coming but now is they get that seminar room for free. I get punished for making the go choice and providing my credit card up front. Once again take care of the cartell on our dime. (IMHO)
