Watched a neat show about how water is purified after going through a wastewater treatment facility. Lots of biology involved. I'm sure the holding tanks at these places need maintenance every once in a while. Does anyone here know of anyone who has ever dove in one of these tanks? Cant be much different than diving in any major river in the eastern part of the U.S. (haha).

No, but I saw a thing on TV about a guy that dives in the storm drain system of New York. Obviously he uses a full bag suit and hard hat gear.

Most treatment plants can divert the incoming to a holding pond or several while they empty one of the processing areas to do internal maintenence.

freediver, was it you that mentioned something about the odor and fecal contamination in Lake Waco. Crud, I used to fish that lake and up the river feeding it.

Heard the fish taste like crap in the lake.

Definitely high on my list of dream dives!

About a year and a half ago the waste water treatment plant in Winnipeg had an "incident" where one of the very large and deep mechanical pits in the building flooded. This caused raw sewage to be diverted into the Red River, and the Environmental Protection Agency to take great notice and concern.

A diver from a local commercial outfit was hired to go to the bottom of the pit and close the valve that had malfunctioned. The pit was full of Sh**. This may be a rumour but it is claimed he said to his surface support team 'if my mask leaks and I have to bail to my regulator, just kill me'!

He got the valve closed, they cleaned the gear and got paid.

No amount of money would have got me into that pit.

Our Department of Public Safety (DPS) Dive Group did exactly that a few years ago looking for a murder weapon. It is a long and horrific story. Suffice it to say that one diver did have a suit leak in his fully closed system. They hauled him up, decontaminated him, took him IMMEDIATELY to the ER, and shot him up with every antibiotic in sight.

As for the weapon, they found it in the perpetrator's desk drawer in his office. A truly s***** deal all the way around!!! :11:
