How was your experience? Did you go to the White Wall, Rainbow Reef, and Annie's Bombe? Any info is appreciated. Thank you! :D

Also known as Paradise Taveuni...

KUfan452 and I stayed and dove with Paradise resort this January.

Had a lovely time - resort staff bent over backwards to be helpful, and all the people were exceedingly welcoming, gracious hosts. We stayed for 6 nights, and did about 4 days of diving, mostly by boat, but they also had a great shore diving site right off the dock where we did about 4 shore dives.

Couple of things of note:

1. The dive operation is well-run, guides are great especially Willy and Charlie.
2. Depending on the day, you go either north or south to the Rainbow Reef sites (purple wall, white wall)

Most of the southern/Rainbow sites are drift diving - others can be done from a fixed boat.

Didn't see much in the way of pelagic species...that was the only real disappointment. The soft and hard coral gardens were truly amazing and totally picturesque.

I echo everything the ClosefocusWA said, but I think he didn't espouse enough about the house reef. It's truly gorgeous; possibly one of the best. Honestly, I think it was just as good if not better than the rainbow reef but much more relaxed -- especially great if you're not a huge fan of current or constantly scanning the wall (like me). It was awesome to get right in at the dock, feel a million miles away and then surface to a waiting cocktail! What more could you want, really? :D

In case you're interested, the resort itself is so perfect you'll honestly consider whether you can give up your real life back home and stay forever ... or maybet that's just me.

Thanks for your replies!

We actually just got back from several weeks in Fiji - We stayed at Paradise in mid April. I totally agree with both your comments. We really loved Paradise. The bures were top notch - little freestanding one bedroom suites, 24 hour power, extremely clean and spacious, handsome furnishings and decor, with outdoor showers and jacuzzis hidden behind a lovely rock wall... the bure views are fantastic! The fact there are only a few bures on the premises, makes it feel exclusive, very quiet, and not resorty at all. The food was more than plentiful, and the staff super friendly. The diving was small group sizes and fast boats. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Oh I forgot to mention - on our way out to the Great white wall we saw Pilot Whales!!! Very cool!

Thanks for posting...I'm glad to hear you had a great trip :D

I really did, thank you. I forgot to mention they have Nitrox too.

We were there in January so there may be more or fewer mosquitoes at different times of the year. I didn't think it it was a problem but some people seem to be a little more susceptible to bites. There certainly was not a swarm of them and it was not a real topic of conversation with the other guests, but yes, there were mosquitoes.

While you're at dinner the resort staff goes to your bure, closes the windows and burns this incense stuff to get rid of the mosquitoes. I think it generally works; however, there is no aircon in the bures. With the windows closed, it keeps the bugs out but gets a little warm. If you have the windows open, the temp is fine but the mosquitoes might come in. The do have ceiling fans which help with the temp and help keep bugs away.

My suggestion is to buy these mosquito patches online. They're called "don't bite me" patches. You can google the name to find the site. You put them on and wear them like a nicotine patch. It's nothing but a super high dose of vitamin B. They're waterproof and will survive diving. You'll need to change them every 24- 48 hours. You'll smell a little bit like a vitamin but they really do work and then the bugs will leave you alone. My boyfriend and I both use them and they seem to work but apparently they don't work for some people. It's definitely worth a try.
