Hi - anyone out there with experience of Dolphin Bay Resort? I think they're on Vanua Levu, but access is from Taveuni. Their website describes them as 'not luxury' and I'm wondering just how basic the resort is. Anyone been there? Thanks.

I have dived with Dolphin Bay on two occasions. Both times I stayed around the corner from them at a resort called Almost Paradise which unfortunately is now closed (first time we went Dolphin Bay was full so they suggested Almost Paradise).

Dolphin Bay are very close (around 10 minutes boat ride) to Rainbow Reef which is where the Great White Wall etc are to be found. I loved diving with them. Geri-Sue who (with Bruce) ran Almost Paradise was (and as far as I know still is) a dive master at Dolphin Bay and was great to dive with.

Dolphin Bay resort is in a very nice spot with a good beach and good snorkelling. It is fairly basic but food was good - I often had lunch there.

Hope that helps.

Dolphin Bay Divers is pretty rustic (having safari tents and a dorm as well as the private bures). The bures cost F$95 per night and the safari tent is F$25 per night. It is pretty basic, but clean and comfortable. I would recommend staying in the bures. The meal package is F$70.00 for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, tea and snacks throughout the day. The food is good but not fancy. They also have a guesthouse on Taveuni that runs F$55 per night.

Diving is F$190.00 for a 2 tank dive, F$550.00 for 3x2 tank dives and F$890 for 5x2 tank dives.

Very friendly people and staff, and the diving is great. Viola and Roland run it, as well as managing Rainbow Reef Resort nearby. Their rates are from F$490-690 (including meals) per night, but substantially more upscale. Dolphin Bay handles the diving for Rainbow Reef as well.

I have recently been Diving at the Somo Somo straights.

I stayed at Garden Island, it has been totaly refurbished and is really nice now.

Close to all dive sites, and affordable, rates start at $155.00 a night!

Thanks all - if I decide to try them I'll let you know what I thought!
