Hard Weights in Checked Bags?

We are going to Hawai'i next month and the cheapest I could find was $6/day and that is a maximum of 20 pounds. I did not see any offers for free weights with a tank rental but I'll look again. Every dive boat I've ever been on included weights with the boat dives, but we are going to be mainly doing shore diving. On a previous trip to Hawai'i I brought my weights so I never asked about renting them.

So maybe this is a Hawaii thing?

I find it typical for shore dives that weights do not come with tanks. Not just Hawaii.

Maybe I have been spoiled? All of our early dives where Caribbean boat dives.

Even shore dives in Bonaire include weights with a tank rental.

Well, at $18.50 for a tank rental I would exactly call the weights "free." At Nautilus in Hilo, HI it's $8 for a tank and $6 for the weights.
