After diving a OMS backplate for about 2 years, I decided to get a new one. I purchased a hammerhead (steel plate and heavy weight STA) and all I can say is WOW. It did not pinch me like the OMS one did and is made very well. If you are considering switching, I highly recommend you look at them.

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

Please fill out your profile and dive info, so that we can add context to your posts.

Are you a DIR diver? Is there a particular reason that this was posted in the DIR forum? Are you affiliated with a dive shop or this manufacturer?

Dive safe!

Nah man....I am not connected to a dive shop. Yes I am a DIR diver, but I just wanted to throw that out there.

It looks well made but would you ever actually uses that handle thing?

You can order the backplate without handles which is what I did. I heard that the handles are useful for carrying the plate, wings, and STA, but not with the tank on obviously.

The handles are helpful for lifting an assembled rig in/our of your car, etc. I agree that the backplate is very comfortable.

Why Headhunter would question your posting this in DIR baffles me. DIR divers use backplates. Next time he says that he likes/use xyz products I hope he adds a non-affiliated disclaimer to his post.

BTW, I am not affiliated with any of the manufacturers of the equipment I use :wallywink :wallywink
