The Halcyon RB80 semi-closed unit.

How does it compare with the other units that are on the market?

Will,

it's a unit that is hard to compare to anything else on the market.
It's the only passive addition SCR that is (fairly) readily available to civilians.
SLJ and crazyc dive them, db8us here on the board dives two, but the better place to ask this question would be http://thedecostop.com/
db8us is there every once in a while, too, and there are several RB80 users posting, everything from recreational/photo dive profiles to deep cave penetrations.

If you use the search function on either board you'll get all the threads that mention the RB80, which should keep you busy for a while. Here at SB for example this one: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=28143&highlight=RB80

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

Gotcha, I will have to to a LOT more reading about the various types out there. I have to admit the rebreather scene is terribly fascinating.
