Above the knot? Why not just cut and melt?

It isn't hard. Just unscrew the dump valve cover from the wing (you should do this once in a while to rinse the inside of the wing out anyway.)

The knot that holds the string in place is under the rubber seal. Peel back an edge to gain access (you will need to re-glue the rubber back in place with some aquaseal and it is easier if you don't pull the rubber completely loose.)

Replace the string, re-glue the rubber seal and reassemble the dump valve being careful not to cross thread it. IF you ruin the plastic threads you will be replacing more than string.

An important question to ask yourself is, "Why is the string frayed in the first place?" You need to figure that out.

tbg:
The string on my rear dump has frayed and unravelled significantly at the end above the knot. Does anyone have instructions on how to replace the string?

Afraid not.

Sorry. Couldn't resist. <g>

I just did 3 dump valve string replacements tonight (2 Halcyon and 1 DiveRite) per the instructions on the dir-diver website - it took a total of 35 minutes including the all-important step #6 (which I did first, so they were entirely black) very simple project.

Aloha, Tim
