BlueDolphin:
If you had a choice between the Halcyon Pro 6 10W, or the Helios 4.5 10W, which would you prefer and why?

Thanks

What are you going to be using it for ? Caves, Swimming around the old fish'n hole, or wrecks?

I will be using it for night diving, rec, some wrecks. Likely not caving.

I've got a Pro 6/10W and a Helios 9/18W. The 18W lights are much better than the 10W lights due to the better color temperature of the 18W and 9Ah is just about right, giving about 2.5-3 dives on a single charge.

I like my helios 18W also, but the focusable 10W heads are also decent on the Helios and Proteus. The non-focusable do not seem as good.

They're decent, but my 10W is now relegated to my backup light. The NiMH batteries are also really nice - that Pro 6 looks huge to me now after having been using the Helios 9 can for so long...

Hey Dryglove, that helios 4.5 I purchased from you, is it focusable underwater? Let me put it this way, I've been using it that way, so I know it does focus underwater but I see in the "used gear" forum someone is selling them and calls them "dry focus" heads. So are they safe for inwater focusing (in other words, did I get lucky thus far focusing in water).

Well i am under the impression it is focusable underwater. The halcyon instructions dont warn against it although i dont think i ever focused it under water leaving just it on the tightest beam setting. You may want to email halcyon to be absolutely sure.

Is the extra money of the 18W light worth it? Damn.... I was stretching for the 4.5!
Yes and no. The 10 watt lighthead is extremely small and compact compared to the 18w light head. The 4.5 cannister is also nice and compact and light weight on dry ground. The 10w produces a nice pencil like beam where the 18w produces a larger more powerful spot. If i had to do it all over again i would stay with my 18 as it really cuts through the crud in murky waters and produces a nice big spot during daylight diving for looking in crevices, looking under rocks and such. Either way i seriously doubt you will be disappointed with the 4.5 if you go that route.
