I just tried out my new Pioneer 36 setup in the pool, and although I loved it, I noticed that at the end of the dive (about 20 min) there was quite a bit of water in the wing. Now, I know that water will get in any BCD when you inflate/deflate often (which I was doing) but this seemed a bit more than usual. I have only rented BCDs previously but do not recall this much water in the bladder previously. In all honestry, I had read on this board that Pioneers tend to be a bit "wet" so maybe I was just paying attention a little more, but still... Are Pioneers more prone to flooding than other wings, and if so, does that present a safety problem at some point?

LOL!! On my first freshwater spring dive, I noticed that my Pioneer 27 had about half the water from the spring in it! Concerned me. Then someone told me I was just a bad diver. My dives this past weekend, when I emtpied the bladder, very little came out.

So ummm.... :D

I wouldnt be concerned about it, Ive gotton quite a bit of water in my BCs on working dives where I was decending/ascending alot. Althought I can't say Ive ever completely topped off my BC which might present a safety problems...Just make sure you get the water out before storage to prevent decay which could definatly cause some problems.

Fill the wing with air, turn it up side down and shake it around a little so all the water flows to the inflator hose, hug/squeeze the rig while hitting the dump valva and the water should shoot out. Repeat the process till all the water is gone.

I understand that water will get into any BCD, especially if you play with the inflator often during the dive. The question is - are Halcyon/Pioneer wings more prone to this than other wings?

No they aren't, but what you're seeing is probably just it being different from what you're used to.

If you don't see any air leaking out, then all that's happening is that you're holding the dump valve open longer than necessary and getting backwash in.

I "burp" my wings; I give a quick tug to only let a little air out at a time, this keeps water from backwashing into the wing. There should never be a time where you want to dump a huge quantity of air (except at the very start of the dive to descend, maybe). So big, long, honk'n pulls of the dump cord should never, ever happen.

Roak

Often with a new wing layout you'll get more water, because you haven't fine tuned air release yet.

Longer bursts allow in more water, and many people tend to overinflate then have to dump air on a new BC or Wing. Once you get used to the bouyancy changes in your net setup, the wing should be less wet.
