Many thanks. I have to admit, I don't like the idea of making a modification that entails drilling a larger hole in the valve cover, yet I can see as well that it's not really too big a deal. In the end, I think I still like the idea of a short pull string with a plastic knob...but we'll see...

Along with those who posted previously, I too got used to it much quicker than I thought and I'm diving with 5mm gloves here in SoCal. Like was mentioned earlier just look for the valve making a J with your left hand slide along until you find it then bring your fingers together and Pesto!

fwiw - When I was getting ready for my last trip I put 2 pair of 3mil gloves on and still had no problem finding the pull cord...

I first pulled the ball off my DR wing after getting it caught twice in a coral head when I rolled over a little bit too close to one... I've met several other divers that have had the same thing happen around here.
