I usually dive only in cold waters in drysuit with +/- 33 pounds of weight and single 100HP steel tank....

I plan to get Halcyon BP/W and I am really not sure if I should get 30 or 40 lift capacity. I really don't think "more is better". Since I don't carry much with me and more than half of my weight it always on the belt....

Is 30pounds enough? I would think it is for sure, anybody any negative regrets with 30pound lift?

thank you,
john

You have a dry suit so you are covered for redundancy.

All I can say is that I dive single with a Halcyon 40 pound and a 130HP tank.
Since I also dive in the south I use my 40 pound wing with an aluminum 80 without problem.

I don't think there is much difference between the both of them in the end.

With a 40 pound wing you probably will have more flexibility in your choice of tanks.

I dive the Halcyon eclipse with Drysuit and Worthing X-7HP100 and use the 40lb. having that extra room incase you need to add weight (Lead) is good to have. Certain dives colder dives I will layer up which then need to add extra weight. My opinon go with the 40 unless there is something that makes the 30 better for you.

Let's see...

Assuming 15-lbs of lead on your BC (and 18-lbs of lead on your belt) + 6-lbs steel plate + 10-lbs negative buoyancy on your HP100 tank (assuming that it's a Worthington). That equates to about 31-lbs of negative buoyancy. Plus a light, a knife, some other doodads and you'll be over 30-lbs worth of lift. Of course when your tank runs low, you'd gain about 6-8lbs worth of lift from loss of air, but the whole idea behind having a wing with enough lift to float your rig at the beginning of the dive when the whole rig is at its heaviest.

Sounds like you'd need a 40-pounder wing.

I myself (although rare because I'm always in doubles) use a steel 100 with my SS BP&W and Trilam Drysuit. I am fine with a 30lbs Eclipse (I don't need more weight). I have found that when divers use this system and have the extra weight (ACB10, Trim weight pockets or 6lbs STA) that a bunch choose to go with the 40lbs wing. Primary response has been due to the fact that they like to be able to float their gear at the surface when not in it.
