I was looking at some pictures of H wings during my soon-to-be-over search for a bp/w, and I noticed the bottom dumps are on the 'diver side' of the wing. i.e., they are pointing down when you're in a normal position. So, if you have a small amount of air in the wing, wouldn't activating this valve just let water in underneath the air, like trying to clear a mask by holding open the top? Or am I missing something here.

From a position of proper trim, I just sort of jack-knife a bit (but towards the sky a little) and the gas in the wing is now at the dump valve. Make an "OK" with my hand, locate the valve, and pull the string.

If I was to do this with my back arched in my "normal" diving position, it would likely let in water, as the gas in the wing is at the tank-side of the wing and not at the valve exclusively.

Butt towards the sky for a moment, gas rolls up and out, then re-arch the back, and all is good.

That's my method. Some others will chime in soon.

Check out the bottom half of the page at the pictures.

If you notice, the wing taco's around the tank(s) placing the exhaust valve pointing out to the side and not laying flat against the bp or diver. Assume a slightly butt up and head down position and the air vents very easily once you find that pesky string which isn't to hard once you get used to it and use the method Mo2vation described.

If the valve was located on the outside of the wing it would taco up and be hitting the tank making it really hard to use.

Your missing something. ;)

With air in the wing...it (the wing) tries to wrap itself around the tank. Now the valve is in the right position...It will be close to the highest parrt or the wing...(Note: You might have to shift you body a little bit to make it the highest).

To make it vent properly...you need to grab the string and roll your hand/pull up the string to the top of the tank. If you just "pull" the string...the diver tends to pull the valve down...and no air get released. (Yeeesh...I not sure that makes any sense or not ;) )

I grab the string with my palm facing out using the "OK" method, then twist my left hand counterclockwise. This pulls the string away from my body and up to make sure it's the highest point. This is the only way I can get all the air out without going vertical and using my inflator to dump. I don't have to bring my butt up or anything, it works great. I can't remember who taught me that trick, it may have been MHK in DIRF class.
