Halcyon ACB

The question is about Halcyon Active Control Ballast…on the Halcyon web site and the site I can use to order gear, they have the picture and 2 weight sizes, but I just want to make sure if the weight is a integral part of it, or you fill it with weight at your dive site(not sure from the pictures)? I mean it would be heavy to carry the weight around…
Also, any of you experience with the system? Is it worth the money???

I use the ACB and like it quite a bit. Placing a D-ring on the left hip pocket is a nice touch. I found wearing a weight belt with a bp/w setup to be uncomfortable/inconvenient but the ACB is quite comfortable, easy to use and way too expensive. I would try to find it used somewhere (eBay?) if possible.

I have a Pioneer 27 and looked at the ACB system but decided not to use it because a) it costs too much and b) it's horizontal layout takes up too much waistband real estate (I am pretty thin).

I use so little weight for tropical diving that I am going to just use a couple of XS-Scuba pockets and toss the weights out if I need to. Four pounds will not be enough to cause a problem in any event.

When I need more weight I am going to use the Diverite TransWeight 16 pockets. They are much more compact and cost less.

I don't like weight belts but there are widely ranging opinions on this.

I agree with Grajan,

I have the Pioneer 45 and thought about the Halcyon ACB, and instead used the XS Scuba single weight pouches. I have four pouches total. You can see from the attached pic that they don't take up much room (pouches are on the lower right side of the pic--1 blue and 1 black). Each pouch can hold up to 5lbs max, maybe more if you use the steel shot weight pouches. When I dive warmer waters, I just remove one pair of pouches and now my BP/W is set for warm water. At $8 a pouch from an LDS, it's definitely much cheaper than the Halcyon ACB.
