I am looking at purchasing the Halcyon ACB weight system and was wondering if anyone has and uses them? Can anyone give me a few of the positives and negatives they have experienced? Would you purchase them again? I would need a total of 30 Lbs in the pockets, lots of exposure protection up here in the great white north!

Hi Diver1,

I've got the ACB system and load it with about 28 lbs when diving with a drysuit. Some of it is dispersed in the keel weight (about 5-6 lbs) and the rest in the side pockets. I like the convenience of the pockets, but you MUST practice ditching with these. The clip requires some getting used to, and is not as easy as a single belt buckle. Some of the advantages are that you can unload weight at the surface while carrying your gear, and then just slip them in afterward. You can also just ditch one side if you need to. You do need soft weights-you'll have trouble getting 30 lb of hard lead in the pockets. Remember, if you're using a stainless backplate, that weighs about 6 lbs.

A few people have recommended the DR Clipper pouches. A lot less than the ACB system... ~$50 for two.

The pouches have simple velcro flaps and accommodate multiple orientations on the harness. Each Hold about 8lbs in each, but I've been able to get 10 into the pouch. No clips like the ACB... which could be good or bad.
