JJ wears them, so probably. :)

Personally, I much prefer a belt (less cumbersome, easier to manage, and cheaper). If they work well for you, though, no reason not to use them.

DIR is all about gear and diver/team attitude. Being correctly weighted is an import factors, thus I would see the pockets as DIR correct.

I haven't used the Halcyon ones, but I helped a friend with the ScubaPro ones the other day. (I assume they are quite similar; Halcyon and ScubaPro have some kind of manufacturing relationship these days.) It is possible to thread the weight pocket on in front of a canister, but especially if the pocket is full, it is a pain. I don't know if it's DIR or not, but I didn't like it . . .

I had 'em. Liked 'em OK, but I've got a narrow waist, (30-32" depending on summer or winter), so I don't have a lot of real-estate on the belt. With a can-light, it really took up room. I eventually removed 'em, and now I adjust my weight on the rig, IE; camband pockets, v-weights, tailweights, tank selection, (AL v. Steel), etc. This also gives me options for where I put the weight, to adjust trim issues. And since I don't need a ton of weight, even with a drysuit and AL doubles, the rig stays balanced.

with the cinch harness and light accessory, the pocket should be behind the light, just like you'd do putting a 5lb lead behind the light. generally only works well with up to 9ah pack, but since the pocket is fixed in place on the cinch plate it's really not issue at all configuring that way.

might consider trying some variation of that even w/out the cinch plate, lock it in place next to plate with triglide or something so all that is being taken on/off is the light.

Laura, does that work with the big pockets that will hold ten pounds? I looked at Dennus's setup, and if I put the canister in front of the weight thing, the canister was going to be anterior to his mid-axillary line; and it was going to be more difficult to pull the weights, too.

My thoughts exactly (not having seen your friend's setup, obviously) - I've seen it work for a few divers with the ACB5 pockets, but I find it hard to imagine pulling off the ACB10s with a can light...
