lamont:I was checking out my #3 against bob's EKPP halcyroff last week, and honestly i don't think its enough for me to shell out for the upgrade. about all i could visually see was a brighter central dot with bob's.
maybe it makes for better signalling in low-viz, maybe i'll change my mind when the algae blooms come back...
other people have thought that my #3 was brighter than their 'new' halcyon, so i dunno, maybe i just got lucky with my #3 and got a particularly bright one...
And the #3 is the king of side scatter. Put it next to the "new" style and you can totally see it. Night vision greatly improves when I send more light down stream, as opposed to flooding my hand and relative area with side scatter. I notice it most at night.
I can't wait to dive the EKPP and check it out.
I've included photos of the three of the reflectors with the slugs in. I couldn't get them all together with the slugs in... as I only have 2 slugs! So I took individual shots. The reflector is backed down fully against the ballast in each - delivering maximum slug penetration into the reflector.
So here are details of the reflectors, showing the depth of slug penetration into the bell - and the relative length of the shroud (and the protection it offers.)
I tried to get the angle of approach for all three detail shots as close to the same as I could - but you wouldn't even be able to see the slug if I did!
Also enclosed is a "from the top" shot of all three. I re-installed the Goodmans for the dive tomorrow, so I needed to prop the against something (Shadow Divers... if you can belive that!) The EKPP is on the left, #3 center, "new" style right.
As you'll see, the "new" style and the #3 are the same diameter - "new" style just has the extended shroud.
Anyone interested in seeing these side-by-each, I hope this helps.
