The DSS wings have a rubber device that performs the same function as Oxycheq Roll Control. Both the Oxycheq and DSS wings are good quality products. I like the DSS wing because the slots provide some flexibiity in positioning. I prefer the DSS plate better because of the rubberized plastic inserts at the webbing attachment points. Also, the DSS plate is a bit flatter than the Oxycheq. I found it more comfortable for me when wearing thinner exposure suits compared to the Dive Rite and Oxycheq plates.
Because Tobin took the time to work with me on the phone, I went with DSS. It came down to customer service and investment in the customer. DSS prices and quality (from my research) are comparable or better than other reputable companies out there being discussed.
If you have any inclination at diving in cool water, then the SS plate is far better for you long term than an ultralight plate of any material.
And if you're wondering about why you might like to get weight "off your belt" the answer has to do with center of mass, and distribution of mass. The plate distributes mass above the length of your lungs, which is where it needs to be when you take a breath.
