I just got a new Olympus H series 1 gig XD card for my trusty C5050, and when I try to format it, I keep getting a CARD ERROR message. This camera took a 1 gig CF card fine, and the 1 gig XD card works fine in my little olympus stylus 500, so what gives? Is the C5050 unable to digest an H series card, or what? I decided to start shooting RAW, and could really use the extra space and writing speed. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. Woody

Well not sure....you should check the olympus website to be sure they have a list of compatibility under their memory card section.

The H-type came out way after the 5050 came out so it might not be compatible....or you might be able to download a firmware up-grade for it from olympus.

Your best bet is to check with them!

According to their website, the most xD the C-5050 will take is a 512H.

I can tell you from experience, a 5050 will NOT take a 1G XD card, reguardless of speed. It will take 1G CFs, besides they are a lot cheaper now days.

I suspected as much, to tell you the truth. I wonder why it will use a 1 gig CF card and not an XD card? Mysteries of the universe, I guess. Will the C5050 take a 512 H series XD card? At least I could benefit from the increased write speed, or is there really that much of a difference? Thanks for your help. Woody

It will work but no telling if or how much faster it will be. The camera has as much to do with write speed as the media does.
