In the east Pacific, the species can be found as far north as Alaska.

Perth isn't that far north in WA. The water is green and gets pretty cold at depth. It feels like the waters off Santa Barbara in terms of color and temperature, and we know who swims there.
 
Just to clarify, WA is Western Australia.
 
When I first saw the WA abbreviation in the thread title, I thought it was Washington State instead of Western Australia. Whew. We see 'em here but they don't seem interested in us most of the time.

Plenty of them here, just doing their shark thing and snacking on seals and sea lions etc. Have seen a few GW attacks on the Northern California coast. Smart predators.
Once watched while a GW "trolled" some young seals and then went North for 5-10 minutes, when he/she came back the first seal in sight was lunch. Did not dive that day, had a nice long lunch at a seaside eatery.
