I'm working the Eve shift, so I can't go. But, if you go, don't forget to post a report. I'm interested to see what the conditions are like on the SS/Boston Harbor areas.

I'm a northshore diver who has the day off.. What is the deal with Gunrock.. depth, parking, currents, rock formations/reefs, lobstering, any other "natural residents" ????

This will be my first dive there, but I'm told that after 5:00pm there is some parking, and that the depth is about 25-30 feet.

Parking is usually a little tight, but this time of year, you shouldn't have much of a problem. There are a few spots along the street(past GR on the oppposite side) that aren't reserved for the neighbors or Kelly's Gun Rock. Also, there are spots on Atlantic Ave before you get to GR across from the playground. Those spots have the time resitriction 8am to 5pm resident only. That might be just in season, though. There is off street parking owned by the lady who owns Kelly's and the laundramat(?). She's usually accomodating to divers(i.e. small fee) and lets Al from SSD park there w/ his truck and OW students. But, when I spoke with her last summer she said she was selling, so there might be different ownership.

Good luck if you go.

How did it go?

hey scott, ill dive gunrock this coming sunday. this will be my first dive so if you decline i will understand.

As far as experience goes, I believe you and I are on the same level, so as long as you don't mind the blind leading the blind. The only problem I might have is that I'll be on a plane at 6:00am Monday morning. If we are out of the water by noon, that will be 18 before the flight. I have read to wait both 18 & 24 hours before flying, so I think I'll be ok. I'm going to post that question and see what more experienced divers have to say on the time intervale.

GunRock is an easy dive, swim to the jetty and do a loop around. (better at lowtide only cause it's a shorter swim) If you dont lollygag it'll be about one tank for a loop. SouthShore Divers often take there classes there. Left Tip of the jetty is about 25ft while the right end is 12-15ft. Pretty much sandy everywhere except the jetty.
