A number of people have inquired about my signature and the term "Guerrilla Diver".

For everyone's information the signature was clipped from this 1994 article:

DEEP DIVE

penned by this board's Dan Volker.

Have you made the dive?

I have a friend who we classify as a gorilla golfer. Human-like appearance, but lots of grunts and groans and foul language.

:rofl3: Thanks Captain Ron! LOL

And what exactly is your problem with Gorilla divers?

While we are reminiscing: I really did LOL at the reference to the download speed on a 14.4 modem, it brought back memories of USR HST modems to this old sysop (banks of them). Too bad the link to the video is 404'ed...

Interesting coincidence. The guy who hosted our Scuba Club's annual refresher this weekend was talking about BCD's as being unnecessary. He felt they led to a lot of bad diving practices that could be avoided just by diving properly weighted and knowing what we're doing. He feels a BC is just one more thing to fool around with while diving, they add extra drag when swimming, and they tend to lead to divers carrying more weight than they need.

His comment was that the only time a BC is really useful is when diving with a thick enough wetsuit that our buoyancy is going to change significantly with depth compression of the neoprene. He said if it's that cold, he's going to dive with his drysuit anyway, and can take care of buoyancy compensation with that.

I found his perspective interesting, though I'm not ready to trade my BC in on a simple harness just yet.
