Diverl

this is part 1 of 4 (or 5) of his GUE CAVE1 class

You can find the remainder on the Rodales message board and drill down to view Trip Reports>Florida Springs

His Tech1 course is also there somewhere. Good blow-by-blow commentaries of the class as it occurred.

Though I am IANTD trained I have read half of "Doing it Right, The Fundamentals of Better Diving" by Jerrod Jablonski so far, have had the opportunity to witness a DIRF class in progress and have read a lot about it on this board. My opinion toward the DIR/GUE crowd is changing though I know that I will remain non-DIR.

The difference to me is primarily one of attitude and the personality of the diver. IANTD with its freedom, flexibility & holistic approach to diving fits me best. Still, I can understand how the GUE/DIR approach to simplicity, uniformity and clear rules is best for many people. Of course the instructor you pick is probably an even more important choice than the agency.

Regardless of what direction you go, both the book mentioned above and IANTD's Techical Diving Encyclopedia should be read by all technical divers even if it's just to better learn why they've followed the path they have.
