Greetings,
Just to add further to what Jarrod posted above: I am currently in the middle of teaching Canada's first Rec I class here on Vancouver Island. It is proving to be what I had always envisioned a proper introductory scuba class should be. We are just starting our ocean work now and if the visibility hadn't closed up on us due to a recent plankton bloom, we would be nearly completed. The amount of information covered in the classroom is quite in depth and it is particularly interesting how the class is structured in that you present many of the basics and then, after the students get their feet wet so to speak, you go back over many of the items you initially touched upon, but in greater depth. (both puns were for Richard....
Interestingly, the light bulb really seems to go on when you discuss some of the more practical concepts the second time around, after the students have seen a real world application of something like Boyles law...... I have no doubt that my students will turn out to be solid divers and enjoy the ocean as we do.
