And accusing GUE of being a cult isn't rude? My apologies, I keep forgetting the anti-DIR rules: Insult DIR and then act hurt when you get insulted back. I just can't seem to get that one through my thick head.

I think one of the problems is that it's a debate that will never be resolved. Like issues of politics, abortion, etc... People will never see eye to eye on this issue. This is only my opinion.

I don't mind discussing DIR with someone that at least has some idea of what it's all about. Lawman doesn't even have the barest grasp of the subject.

Your demeanor towards how you started this thread and comments towards GUE/DIR is the reason you are getting the responses that your are receiving.

If you were to ask in a respectable manner im sure you would get more respectable answers.

My point is that it resembles a cult in it's structure. Right down to intense hostility to anyone who even remotely questions GUE or
wants to find out why so many people get worked up about it.

Look, in the great scheme of things this is an arguement amongst gym teachers over esoteric phys ed doctrine. Still, this a board for divers and we do take an interest in such things. It just seems that everything about GUE/DIR makes people angry.

The poster who started this thread begins by using an emotionally charged word like 'cult'. To not suspect that such a post was going to receive some emotionally charged responses was a little silly. To take the high road of indignance when some actually posts such a response is downright absurd.

To Lawman:
Most people on this board take their training very seriously. In the course of making decisions about training, some have evaluated, done research, performed cost/benefit, etc and come to the conclusion that DIR represents the best option for them, the individual diver.

For you to suggest that they follow a cult is to basically accuse them of mindlessly being led without any inate intelligence of their own. I don't care what the topic is or what the board is about, you were bound to get a little smackin' across the noggin'.

If you have a real question that you want answered by the people who really know what they are talking about when it comes to DIR, you'd probably be best served by asking it another way.
