We will be staying on Utila for 2 months (Feb/March) and we wondering if it was worth it to try to get to Guanaja, both to see the island and to do a couple dives?Any recomendations/advice on where to stay/dive?Or how to get there from Utila?

A ferry does run via Roatan, or at least it did. Maybe a 6-8 hr trip with stops in Roatan. Air service? I would call Roatan Charter and at least ask.

Not sure if there are any viable dive ops there at this time, what with the closing of Posada del Sol. (Not as if there was ever any "day traffic" like Utila or the West End of Roatan).

Worth it? Sure, yeah, but worth the current hassle of the situation? Doubtful.

Just my guess, maybe someone with real time knowledge can add in here.

Doc.

We took the owners and guests to Guanaja a few months ago. We anchored near the End of the World Resort and dropped our group there for dinner one night. They didn't have anybody staying at the resort at the time and they were very accomodating. They did a fresh grouper dinner and everybody was really happy. We put them in on some reef to snorkel and dive and they weren't too impressed. To be fair, we didn't put them in on any official dive sites and we may have missed the good stuff.

You can get to Guanaja on SOSA, Islena or Atlantic airlines You may have to go from Utila to La Ceiba first but I'm not sure. I know we've been sitting in La Ceiba for hours waiting for a flight to Roatan while flights leave for Utila and Guanaja.

We were there in 2002 and it was the best diving of my life. We were the only divers on the island and the vis was forever. Came up out of a cavern into the light and 25 ft from a 10ft hammerhead. Lots of big stuff, but some of my favorite diving ever. I'm just so sad to hear that Posada has closed. Skip the Jado Trader and do Jim Silverload or whatever it's called. Have fun.
