I just returned from 9 days at Posada Del Sol in Guanaja, Honduras. There weren't as many "creatures" as I had expected. I went to Roatan about 7 years ago and was just expecting more things. The hotel was really nice and the staff was great. For 2 days, I was the only diver so it was just me, the divemaster and boat captain on my 3 daily dives. A couple from El Salvador came after 2 days and the husband dove with us. For the final 3 days, there were 4 divers. I really enjoyed that part.

Here are some underwater pics taken with the S400 or S500.

CABO great photos but I did notice all photos of fish were looking down, a professional uw photographer told me to shoot from SLIGHTLY below looking up and make sure the eye's were in focus. It seems when people look at photos they are always drawn to the eye's of the subject.

Very nice, I really like the Tunicates, great colors. My only suggestion agrees with cdiver1...I'd try to get lower whenever possible. Shooting down makes the photos look flat.

Really nice, and great colours too!

Good to see some shots taken with a Canon (as opposed to an Olympus) camera for a change. The seascapes are beautiful.

Cabo,
I enjoyed your photos.
Perhaps you could post a trip report including a comparison between the Roatan and Guanaja diving. It sounds like you were somewhat disappointed with the marine life. A trip report would be a valuable tool for others here.
Rodale's website has a trip report page with various locations. Your destination is not that frequented. Please consider a trip report for that site as well. They are great sources of information.
Thanks.

Can you tell us about your kit? Did you use a strobe?

I use the Sea&Sea YS 25-DX strobe. I wish I had purchased the 90DX for a bit more power though.
You can see a few pictures of the setup at the end of this folder of Cozumel U/W shots.

Gilligan: I posted a small report in the travel section of this board under the Central America part but will also post one to scubadiving.com. I searched most sites for information about Guanaja and didn't find much so I agree it would be helpful to others.

..Tips on the photos.. I agree that taking shots a bit below the subject gives a much nicer feeling to the shot. Some shots I've seen that others had posted really demonstrate this. I had difficulty getting into those positions since there was so much coral, I didn't want to risk damaging it and no matter how many times I called "Here fishy fishy", they wouldn't come up much. Maybe it was the regulator in my mouth?? :) The tip for keeping the eyes in focus is an excellent idea but points out one issue I have with the S400/S500: The LCD is very small and seeing if you got a good focus is difficult underwater. Underwater I've thought I had a good shot but as soon as it's on my computer, I can tell it's a bit out...

Thanks again for the comments. I'm trying to get out to the Flower Gardens again this summer for a bit more practice.
