Hey everybody,
I am trying to decide between two jobs. One is in Guam and the other is in St. John's Island (US virgin islands). Does anyone know which place has better diving? I've never been to Guam so I'm not too sure of the quality of diving there vs. the Caribbean. Thanks.

Chris

Wow, that's a tough one . . .they're both beautiful idyllic places. I'm a WWII buff so I would personally choose Guam because of its "Weekend Proximity" to Palau, Chuuk and the Philippines. It's also a great Hub/Gateway to all the fantastic diving of Southeast Asia. Anyway, whatever your choice, I hope your job in either location gives you time and latitude to explore all these wonderful places. . .

I have been to Guam on numerous business trips ove rthe last 6 years. The diving is execllent and visibility can exceed 200 feet! As someone else mentioned the proximity to Palau, YAP, and Chuuk gives you ideal choices for dive trips. I have been to St. John many years ago but did not dive. I have been diving in St. Maarten, Saba, Jamaica and the Bahamas. For me none of them stand up to Guam nevernind PAlau.

The drawbacks to Guam are the distance from the US (7 hour flight from Honolulu). The distance does induce some isolationism from what is happening in the US (18 hours ahead of Pacific time).

But then again the DIVING is fantastic. Look for ChrisBangs photo gallery here on the ScubaBoard. Chris is a great photographer and, last I heard, he was involved in managing MDA, one of the dive shops on the island (and my choice)..

Hello,
I currently live and dive Guam. I have a few pics I have taken that you can check out at my website: http://www.jaymelmiller.com/GuamMap2.htm The map is a work in progress so the only pictures that are linked are the dive pics (click on the dive flags). There is also alot of great info on the page that we have put together. If you have any question about Guam you can ask and I will try to answer.
