The Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve (proposed) is a community movement to establish an underwater preserve in Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan. The purpose of the preserve is to promote underwater recreation and Maritime Heritage Tourism in the Great Lakes.

Supporting and working side-by-side with the community to acquire a very large ship to sink in Grand Traverse Bay as a new dive attraction to supplement the other great dive sites in Grand Traverse Bay. Support is strong throughout the state and local region! We are excited to accept ScubaBoard as a sponsor of the Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve Council!

Our Mission Statement:
To sustain an Underwater Preserve by enhancing education, research and preservation of our Great Lakes and maritime heritage, and by the promotion of tourism and public recreation.

If you are interested in helping and not sure how, please e-mail us and let us know what you're hobbies are and what you would like to do for the underwater preserve. We're looking for anyone who has an interest in donating some of their time. You don't have to be a scuba diver, just someone who has an interest in the underwater world and its vast historical resource. Please e-mail us!

Apparently it's official now, the GTBUP has received official state approval. We now have a new underwater preserve.

I didn't see anywhere in the attached text you provided that they were official. I looked through my e-mails thinking I missed a press release or something to indicate they finally made it. Scoured the ScubaBoard site. Nope, nuthin'. If they did, I congratulate them on their perseverance and hard work. Through a diversity of opinions that may have been misled by a few onlookers who started a negative campaign against them, it's good to hear they are finally at the finish line. Yet, I sense displeasure from your post? Where did you hear about it?

If they are official, I'm curious why there wasn't any notification from their group, no press release....nothing. I'll e-mail them and see what's up.

I "sense" someone trying to create controversy where none exists. This was an informational post only. It matters not one bit weather you believe it or not, especially since you are supposedly in Nevada.
