Hello all, I just found this board today and have to say WOW this is great.
I am Canadian from New Brunswick currently living on the island of Curracao Netherlands Antillies. It is 70 Km east of Aruba and 60 Km west of Bonaire. I started diving in July shortly after moving here and have logged 30 dives in 3 months! The diving here is nothing short of amazing.

Welcome to Scuba Board Steve! Come check us out when you're on your surface interval:D.

Welcome to scuba board. Hope you have many safe and happy dives.

Welcome to the board!

Steve!!!
WELCOME to ScubaBoard!!!
I just read a thread in which the poster had said he dove the Netherland Antilles, said the diving was HUGE but there wasn't much else going.
So what found you there?
Enjoy your new addiction and the home you have to feed it!!

Now for my stock message, which is still under construction:
This is a great place to meet people, talk about diving, and get information on just about any aspect of diving -or other subjects sometimes- that you can think of. Roaming through the forums is great help for me.
Now get wet with us and dive into the forums to ask questions, answer those that you can and even chat with folks about diving dreams and nightmares. ScubaBoard is a great place to spend your required Surface Intervals.
When you post a question, be as sure as you can that it's in the right forum or you'll probably find it moved.
The folks here are passionate about their diving, some about their specialty, so the reading can get very interesting, sometimes very hot.
Don't forget, if you haven't already done it, to fill out you profile as completely as reasonable, it'll save you being asked and having to repeat the information often.
Enjoy!

Hi Steve, Welcome to the board. Lots of good people and tons of information.

I will be diving in Curacao next week with three of my buddies :dazzler1: . We leave this saturday. Any recommended dives? Actually any recommendations for anything on the island?

Take Care

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest!
If you'll simply click ScubaBoard.com above, you'll be taken to our long list of forums, a wealth of information and resources. My favorite is at the bottom: Singles Dive Club.

It would help in future diving discussions if you'd complete your Dive Info. You can use the Quick Links above to reach those easily. Sizing a photo for your profile or Avatar can be a challenge; I'm a fumbling amateur, but I get the job done, if you'd like any help?

PM me if I can help you learn your way around; that is - click my username to the upper left, then follow the prompts to send me a "Personal Message." :thumb:

Hi Scott,

How long are you going to be in Curacao? I assume you are arriving on the late afternoon American Airlines flight from Miami on Saturday. That will be a little too late, a buddy and I will be diving the mushroom forest in the morning. Where are you staying, and will you be renting a car?

There are a number of great dive sites here, with most of the best ones requiring a short drive.

The mushroom forest is a “must see” it can be reached as a shore dive from Santu Pretu and San Nicholas. However, you will see much more of it if you do it from a boat dive. All West diving in West Point offers regular boat dives to the mushroom forest.

There is a very nice wreck dive just off the harbor entrance in Willemstad. It is the Superior Producer, which sits upright in 32 (105 feet) meters of water.

Vaersenbaai is on of my favorites. It is a location where they used to dump old cars. There are about 50 to 60 vintage cars, a barge, and a tugboat between 25 meters and 57 meters. (80 feet to 190 feet) the tugboat lies on its side at 57 metes, but is easily visible from 40 meters (130 feet)

The coral at all of the dive sites is incredible, as are some of the wall dives. You will almost certainly see 6 foot green moray eels, barracuda, Spanish lobster, rainbow parrotfish etc, etc.

As far as other things happening on the island, there is plenty. It depends on what kink of a scene you are looking for. There are live bands plying at some of the beaches with dancing until dawn. Numerous clubs and casinos, or just relax with a few drinks on one of the amazing beaches. The water temps are 30 – 30 C on the surface and 28 –29 at 100 feet. We are in the rainy season right now, so expect to have a few rain showers. It typically showers for about 15 to 20 minutes in the morning a couple of times a week. Air temps these days are about 31 – 33 C in the day and down to about 25 –26 at night. Not sure what that converts to in F.

Yes we are arriving late on Sat. I think around 9:30 P.M. and will be there until the 13th. We will be staying at Breezes and renting cars (we found renting two small ones compared to one large to be cheaper.

This is going to be one of boat dives as it comes highly recommended.
