Welcome to SB, Todd.

Fortuitous timing -- I was in the volunteer orientation with Alex, just today, for the Dive Program at the Georgia Aquarium.

He mentioned they're reducing the time commitment level and expanding the (volunteer dive) program, since they have such a need for divers to look after keeping just the Ocean Voyager tank clean. There were a number of divers in just this one orientation.

We were watching the first "Dive Georgia Aquarium" divers and swimmers today. Even at $290/pop, they seemed to be having a blast. Looked like even the swimmers were wearing modified scuba gear (chest mount tanks and regs... looked like Zeagle Rapid-Diver rigs) however, I did notice they stuck to the surface. There also seemed to be a GA staff member with a nice looking video rig (which I know we got into, waving and going nuts in the 'tunnel').

In any case, great day at the GA, and I'm looking forward to joining you in the program there, once all those requisite floor hours are completed.

Again, welcome to SB.

P.S. For the Splits vs. Paddle crowd: At Epcot's Living Seas, they supply Atomic splits; however, here at the GA, seems they're sticking with Jets.

Welcome aBoard. Good luck on the DM class.

Hey Todd,

I am new to this site as well... just wondering what its like to swim with whalesharks in a tank! My husband and i operate a Whaleshark Charter business on the Ningaloo Reef, Australia! We find them with spotter planes and snorkel with them straight off the back of the reef... its pretty amazing!

Good luck with your DM chat soon

Andrea

WELCOME TO :sblogo: Neighbor!
Check out our local forum THE DEEP DIXIE DIVERS!
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/deep-dixie-divers/ We have some big dive fests coming up and are always looking for new buddies to hang with us!

Happy diving!

As one NAUI DM to another (to be), welcome!

(I'd so love to volunteer at the Aquarium, but it's just not convenient, being eight hours away and all. I keep toying with the idea of volunteering at our Aquarium of the Americas down in NOLA, but my inoculation against screaming kiditis has not yet taken effect.)

Welcome to the SB community, Todd. I have a sister in Eagle Watch in Woodstock. She doesn't dive but my niece and nephew do.

Thanks to all for the welcome!!! YES it is quite an experience diving with FOUR whale sharks and 80,000 other fish....nothing quite like getting sandwiched between 2 - 20 foot sharks without a care in the world :)

But believe it or not, the most dangerous fish in the is a Giant Grouper.....She has bit quite a feew divers..

The Beluga Whales is the real kick...nothing like 53 degree water in a full 7 and 24 pounds on while a Beluga is barking at you an biting at your fins.....:)

Hope I can contribute to the boards!!!

and DrBill......tell her I live in Bradshaw Farm...she will know where that is...

Barry, yep do your 35 hours on the floor and prepare for an OSHA working diver dive test....It was a PITA....Just about drown myself to complete it :) Tell Alex, Todd Washowich says HI...Love that guy!
