Hi everyone,

While search and doing some research for my trip in February, I discovered this forum.

I'm not yet certified and begin taking the open water certification in mid-September which is the earliest date that works with my schedule. I'm sure to have fun with the actual open water dive at the end of September. Since we've had a cool summer, the lakes are a few degrees cooler than normal and mid-September should be ;) lots of fun.

Well, I look forward to learning lots and planning future dives, especially in the Caribbean.

Welcome, Pam, It's great that you've joined this board, even before your cert. Hang around and you'll learn a lot; I know I have.

Let us know how your certification goes.

Yah, Yah, Minesota, that be true? Welcome to the board Pam. I too am new to diving and find lots of useful information here. When you get bitten by the scuba bug it can really consume you, everything and anything about diving is what you look for.

Hi Pam!

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

So, you're from Minnesotah then. Cripes, I'd think your lakes would be frozen by September, don't cha know. I'm not sure if they'll get done with the road construction by then. Well, I 'spose you're pretty used to the cold already. Yah, I say if you want to have a good time then learn to SCUBA. Then when people ask you if you're really gonna go under the water and breathe, you can tell 'em, "Yah, you betcha!" They'll have a sanvich ready for ya when you come out. ;)

I know a whole bunch of in-laws and out-laws in Minnesota and Wisconsin, so I just couldn't help myself. I was just there in the beginning of July and had a great time. I thought I was going to get hauled away by your state bird a couple of times when I was lounging at the cabin by the lake on the 4th of July. :11: Actually, it is an absolutely beautiful state both in the winter and the summer. I look forward to my next adventure in ice fishing with my brother-in-law.

Hope you enjoy it here at ScubaBoard and didn't mind a little ribbing on the way in from a wimpy Californian. :palmtree: :sunny

Dive safe!

Welcome to the board Pam. I found this board to be most informative!

Welcome. My daughter lives in Golden Valley near Minniapolis. Don't forget to put California on your list of SCUBA destinations. Our kelp forrest are a treat.

I'm looking forward to future adventures.

And, headhunter, I take the ribbing really well. I know several Californians and have made my way towards San Diego several times and Hermosa Beach area.

Ya' know, da snow don't arrive in Minneapolis area until October. I have gone swimming numerous times in Nordern Minnesotah in an area called the Boundary Water Canoe Area (BWCA) when it was snowing and we had to break through a thin layer of ice. Dat was lots of fun, ya know. Ya, you betcha, I'd do that again.

Don't know about diving under inches of ice though. I think that may be a little crazy. I'm not even crazy about driving out on the ice for ice fishing! I've been reading a local dive board, www.mnscuba.com and it seems there are some good dive sights involving vehichles with owners that miscalculated the safety of driving out on the ice.

Yes, welcome to the board. I agree with pasley, CA, I think, would be considered warm water diving to someone from Minnesota. Good luck on your certification.
