Hi -

Last January I went snorkeling for the first time in Cozumel and then Grand Cayman - and I LOVED it. Now I'm OW certified and absolutely hooked on diving.

Thank you to all the experienced divers who make this board a great place for new divers to ask and learn.

Happy diving!

Hi snorkbot, welcome to ScubaBoard, sounds like you got into diving just like me.
So have you bought a bunch of gear yet?
Oh, you may want to fill out your profile a little bit more, it helps when communicating with others on the board.
David

Thanks David! I just filled it out.

I have the basics (mask, fins, snorkel..) and have been "accessorizing" along the way (gloves, hood, knife, light...). I'll probably make some larger purchases this spring. I'm still trying to figure out what gear works best for me before committing. Same with you or have you taken the plunge (so to speak) with larger buys?

Cheers,
Snorkbot

Howdy Snorkbot and welcome to ScubaBoard.

This diving stuff is kind of neat. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

My Dad grew up in Brooklyn, but we don't talk about that much. He just starts twitching and his eyes roll to the back of his head when it's mentioned.

Happy diving.

Hey welcome. Do you plan on doing any diving around NY or just a tropical type of person.

Hey Bot. Next year try some dives on the dive boat Karen. They do a bunch of cool dives that are not too deep. I did a trip with them this past summer. Had a good time. Check it out. http://diveboatkaren.com/

Welcome to SB! A little cold for diving in the NE (saying this as snowflakes fall from the sky) but spring is only a mere 3 months away!

Thanks for all the great tips and advice!
I am definitely going to be doing some close-to-home cold water diving. But with any luck I'll also hit some warmer destinations this year. I did some dives in the Keys over the summer - what a difference from my training dives here in the NE!!

Cheers,
Snork
