Hello everyone. We are Dave and Jen out of Massachusetts, and were new to the site. We have dove local MA, RI and ME, but I love to dive unencumbered by wetsuits ,hoods, gloves and boots. Just trunks, a tshirt and 4-5# of weight:) Our 15 yr old daughter is now certified, and my 11y son loves to snorkel, and had already been on a resort dive!

Welcome to ScubaBoard:D :D :D Sounds like some tropics diving is in order for your family then. Warm water and no wetsuits. Come on down to Florida, we have that in the Keys!!

Our Cozumel sub-forum under Geographic, Mexico, is one of our most popular. Even in warmer months, I always wear a long skin there for other protection. I have no idea was to what your 11 yo uncertified diver could do while the rest dive, tho...?

It does help with discussions if you complete your Profile. And it's even more fun when you load an Avatar (personal pic for each post) and a Profile pic. See UserCP to access these if you'd like to...? ;)

If you haven't yet, click Forums above and start going thru the list - looking for those of interest to you, especially your local dive club. Always good to try a Search before starting a new thread, tho :search: and be careful about posting Threads & Replies without reading the Stickies at the tops of most forums. Click the link in my Sig below to PM me if I can help you around here..

Hi Daleco,

You can definately dive Cozumel in trunks. I won't go in any water that requires a wet or dry suit; that's not diving it's work. This is me a few years back when I went with my wife. A lycra suit might not be a bad idea but I don't like them. I am a little old school. There are a few beach areas that aren't too bad for snorkelling or diving but the best stuff is out on the wall and it is a drift dive. I would say it is a little past a beginner's level, so be careful with the kids.

Have a good trip! Vince.

Check out Fiesta Americana Cozumel. They have a "house reef" about 20 ft deep. Great snorkeling and decent shore diving is easily accessible from the shore across the street from the main hotel building. The on-site dive operator is good. A dive package with them offers unlimited shore diving and boat diving for the 3 divers in your group. A dive travel agency made our arrangements.

Welcome to the board! My kids almost the same ages as yours and they also dive. We are looking at Bonaire next year for a family dive trip. The Buddy Resort is supposed to be great with kids; also Breezes in Curacao. Maybe we will see you on an island someday ;)

Thanks for the info. We went to Bonaire last couple of years, and thoroughly enjoyed our trips. We stayed at Lions Dive (between Cpt Dons, and Buddy's). Great divedock and house reef, w frogfish there to see (if you can) within 75 yds. There is a 24 hr. tank swap station, and several dozen shoredives all around the island. We always rent the inexpensive 4-door pickups, they are perfect for the island. Not a big fan of the pier night dives, as they seemed to cram too many people in too cramped a space.

Probably Turks or Dominica for us next trip.

My cousin stayed at Osprey Beach Hotel in Grand Turk and loved the beachfront rooms. Since you're a family, you'll want to grab a suite with kitchen facilities to prep some meals...dining on T&C can be v. pricey!
