I'm a married, mid-fifties, 100 dives open water diver from San Francisco. All my dives have been around the Caribbean. My wife dives, too, but has big trouble with seasickness and usually will only dive from shore or on short, calm boat dives.

We operate our own construction specification/rep business and have done extensive travelling including leaving town to let our mid-life crises blow over--we bought a van and spent 2 years driving around Europe about 15 years ago (we are repeat offenders, I'm glad to say). We travel hard and cheap...and a LOT!

There's nothing cooler than taking a big order from a payphone outside a cloud forest in Costa Rica...then making sure your victim knows he should be eating his heart out! Gives them somebody to hate and something to strive for all at the same time, thusly satisfying our obligations to perform a usefool role in society.

Now we've gotten tired of European gibberish, want to save some central america for later and go try Thailand...so I guess we'll have to sample the diving. Too bad, but somebody has to do it.

We're checking out liveaboards for our trip in December and are asking for recommendations for moderately priced operations that go to the Similans. Because of their location in Kata (Phuket Island) and good price and dates, we're looking at Ocean Divers and their boat the MV Vilai Samui. Has anybody had experience with this operator or a better idea?

Thanks,

DEEP GOAT and his long-sufferin' but cooperative Wife.

Hi there and welcome to the boards! I think that you will be able to learn a lot here, and hopefully be able to post some of your own experiences as well! My name is Kayla, and I have been diving for two year now. If you have any question or problems... or you just want to chat, PM me! Otherwise, I hope to get to know you better around the boards!

Safe diving!
Kayla

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest! But you're going to drag your seasick wife onto a liveaboard where she won't touch rock or land for a week. You beast!

Go to our Pacific forum and check there for more on your boat. The Search feature can be very useful, too.

Completing your Profile and seperately - keeping your Dive Info up to date helps in future diving discussions. PM me if I can help you learn your way around.

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

I got a bit behind in my greeting due to some great diving over the weekend, but wanted to offer you a warm ScubaBoard welcome now that I'm back. I guess diving is an acceptable reason though!

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.
