Just curious as to why this would involve the government? If i want to eat double the average amount of trans fats, and pay a restaraunt to fix it up for me, why should the government be involved?
Because in the end the government will end up paying for your medical bills. Not to mention other government indicators of how the economy, and thus the society, is doing.

They are probably feeling guilty for pushing hydrogenated oil on us in the form of margerine for 15 years.
Margarine has been around for much longer than 15 years. I believe its more like 50 to 60 years. As the story goes, I might have been the king of Oleo, but life didn't turn out that way--thankfully.

I don't think they should regulate what we eat. But they involve themselves and they are always so wrong.

But, what I meant by "late to the party" is by the time they come out with all their recommendations...most of us have known this stuff forever. They are not exactly cutting edge. Look at what just happened to the food pyramid...

Better off not to listen to a thing they say. If you wait for them, you will be in trouble.--kinda like cigarettes.
It is true, we will be picking up the tab.

Yeah if I had only listened to the government I would have only recently discovered those cigarettes I smoke are bad for me. :no Their not the fast kid on the block. :rofl3:

That argument leads to the government controlling every aspect of our lives. What next, no cheeseburgers, mandatory exercise periods? Sorry, I don't care for the economic control of my life argument.

I agree. Next stop socialism. I say educate people, and make everyone responsible for their own actions. What a concept. No more suing for $100mm for choosing to smoke, or for getting fat from fast food.

Sorry, I'll stop my ranting. :D

I agree. I was just saying, not to get duped into their "opinions" and public service announcements.

I'm not saying its right, correct or best. I'm just noting a line of thinking that I am aware of following many years in the healthcare industry.

Who should educate the people? Is it governments responsibility to educate people? After all government is nothing but a bunch of folks spending my and your tax money on what they see fit to spend it on.

In my observation, Catherine is correct about the general public knowing stuff long before the government tells us what is good or bad for us. Its also my observation that much of what the government tells us is based on some other somewhat unrelated policy or program. The old food pyramid, IMO, was related to agricultural programs and policies involving money not sound nutritional theory.

Ok, you guys have wrecked my thread by getting serious. If someone doesn't start being funny real soon, I close this thread for being political. :10:
