We went the last week of August and the temp at the Tugs and other shore dives was 67 degrees, Niagara II and Caroline Rose had 55 below the thermocline which was around 35 feet for us.

Where are all the MN divers?? There are wrecks along the entire length of the north shore of Superior. Check out the shipwrecks page from the MN Historical Society:

In many cases though, even if it's near to the shore you'll need a boat to access them easily....like the Ely, just on the inside of the south breakwall in Two Harbors. The Madeira is a really nice one that you can dive from shore, just north of Split Rock lighthouse. If you're really going to circle the great lakes, you owe it to yourself to get out to Isle Royale national park and dive the wrecks there. Absolutely fantastic.

You'd need your own boat or a charter for that of course, but it's worth it. PM me if you want suggestions for dive shops that go there.

beezwax - Before I was a diver I spent a chunk of time on Isle Royal. I'm going to plan that for the future. Little room for error up there, but I'm sure with a bit more experience, it will be great.

I got the regs you sent yesterday. They are in pretty good shape. if parts were still avail, I would probably dive them.

did you recieve a delivery from me?

thanks, and I hope it won'y be too long before we make a trip over that way.

Yes I got your check. I actualy kept the regs. in service and even used them last year for a few dives but now parts cost more then the regs.

I'm wondering if the octos are still functioning. It would get us diving this year for a chunk less cash, and as you can see, that is a focus. I will be heading to the LDS with them tomorrow to pick up the abyss setup. I'm pretty fired up.

We can get you there aboard Superior Wreckreation. www.superiordivers.com. Based out of Duluth, MN we visit the Thomas Wilson regularly and travel as far north as Isle Royale!!!!!!

A lot of the sites are tech dives for sure, but certainly not all. I've scanned the park dive brochure for your info-- it has all the park regulations and brief descriptions of each wreck site. Also see this webpage for more info and a superb photo of the America (bow at 2 feet, stern at 80 feet):

EDIT: I don't know why this link isn't opening correctly for me from this post...it's the right address. If you do a google search for "SRC Project Display Isle Royale" you will also get to the page.

We dove off the beach at Whitefish Point right in front of the lighthouse just for fun. We didn't think they would let us but we asked and they said to go right ahead :) There's nothing there but sand and it's only 7-17 feet deep but we can say we dove Whitefish Point LOL! Interesting note are the sand ripples. They run parallel to shore in the shallows and in deeper spots they are perpendicular to shore. Makes navigating interesting if you don't know that when you start.
