Took AM off and had 3 great dives.
Started early to do the usual set I do in Portsmouth in Piscatequa river. Dove during slack tide which was about 8:30ish. First dive, dove for some artifacts under memorial bridge. Really timed it right as no current in channel and was able to make it to the 2nd stancion. (a first) Such a cool dive. Water temp in river now is about 53 degrees. Vis is better than usual around 20 feet. Max depth 70 feet. Always, something new. Today, saw a bicycle someone must have tossed over bridge.
Still was able to squeeze in a 2nd dive during slack and dove Pierce Island to do the wall dive. Current was starting to pick up but was able to make it to tip of island where the Chevy Van. Lots of stripers in water.
Lastly, drove up to Nubble for 3rd and final dive. I had it to myself as no other divers were there. It's a bit cooler. I got 49-50 degrees. The water was completely calm and flat. I dove to other side of island about 1/2 way up. Someday, I want to make a full circle of island. I know others in my dive club that have. You have to dive it at high tide and stay shallow to make the circuit. The vis was the best I've seen in a long time (30-35 feet!) No current. Saw a huge lobzilla wedged in a crevice. Unfortnately, arrived as low tide was approaching so had to be extra careful getting in and out. When I surfaced, was surprised at number of people watching topside. A tour bus came in and dumped a bus full of tourists in parking lot. Was asked the usual questions.. What's down there? What's the water temp? You see any sharks?
After 3rd dive, was kind of cold. I had a bottom time of 55 min. If wasn't cold, would have switched tanks and gone for a 4th at Nubble.
All in all, a good day. Looking forward to getting out again.
