My husband and I just returned from a trip to Maui and I wanted to share with everyone some information about a great place to stay if you are a diver planning a trip there. The Guest House B&B in Lahaina-Maui was wonderful and really caters to divers. There are 4 large rooms which go for $129/dbl (quite a bargain on Maui) and include a private hot tub as well as a great breakfast each morning. The house is very modern and clean. The owner of the home is a diver so she really caters to our needs. She has an outdoor shower area to clean off your gear as well as long shelves for drying it off between dives. She is also very knowledgable about dive sites as she has lived and dived on Maui for over 17 years so even if you just want to snorkel or are traveling with non-divers she can point you in the right direction. For those seeking even further budgeted accomodations, she has one room, The Puka room, which is significantly smaller than the others but still has a hot tub and a semi-private bath and goes for a mere $79/night. Finally, if you are like us and had to pack a bit lighter to accomodate the heavy gear, she has a full laundry room which is free of charge to guests. The house which is located in a residential neighborhood in Lahaina is about a 5 minute dive to what is considered one of the best shore dives in Hawaii, the Mala Wharf dive as well as the Lahaina harbor boats to Lanai, a 30 minute drive to Kihei where you will catch boats to dive Molokini Crater, and about 10 minutes to Honolua Bay and Kaanapali Beach/Black Rock, also popular snorkel/diving sites.
One further note, we dove with an outfit called Makena Coast Charters for our boat dives and a company called Turtle Reef Divers for shore dives in Lahaina. Both were first rate and would definitely use again.
