Just over a week ago I took a tumble off my bicycle on my way to my morning swim. I have the good fortune of living very close to Ginnie Springs and start my days with an upstream swim in the beautiful Santa Fe River. Unfortunately, wet roads and a large mud puddle conspired to stop me last Tuesday. I managed to shred the skin off my left side from ankle to shoulder and knocked myself silly. I wear a helmet for every other aspect of riding, yes, even my scooter, but not my morning swim. Perhaps I will rethink that.
In any case, unable to take some time off, I had to get back in the water to teach a CCR Cave class that began on Friday. Well bandaged, padded and bathed in aloe vera, I have found that the road rash has healed extremely quickly. So next time you have a wound, consider a PO2 of 1.2 for two to three hours a day for a week. Hyperbaric wound care usually costs tens of thousands of dollars at a hospital. I like the view around here a lot better.--Jill
