Smart move. His instructor thanks you, I'm sure.
Oh I'm sure he will! I want him to learn how to dive the right way. Not learn to dive the way Dad does. I want him to really learn what the instructor teaches him and develop his own style without any outside influence from me or the way I do things. Once he's certified I'm more than happy to help him work on honing his skills and becoming a better diver. But from the get go I want him to learn how to dive on his own. He's already done the PADI Seal Team stuff so he knows how some things are to be done. Just want him to learn to be fairly self-sufficient and not relying on me completely while we're down.

Do you have a pool started on how soon before he starts correcting you on the way you dive?

I also found that dive operators in Cozumel generally don't adhere to depth limits for junior divers, and their dive site selection reflects that -- so it's really up to you to state up front to the operators that you absolutely don't want your granddaughters to go below a particular depth.

I'd highly suggest you re think your dive operator - I was at the hospital today for my physical, they asked me to wait a bit as they had an emergency coming in, being that it was 11 am, I told my wife it was a dive injury and sure enough, it was. I have an idea what the injury was but in no way am saying someone was right or wrong - just that injuries happen and God forbid it happens to a child.

I will never dive with just me and my son or myself, son and someone not an active dive professional. A child cannot be a true buddy in the sense that they cannot be counted on to save you, they can be as skilled as any advanced diver but the emotional maturity to handle an emergency isn't there or should be expected to be.

Diving with kids in Cozumel just limits your dive sites is all.......

Not yet but I'm sure it'll happen as he gets older and more experienced. He has a knock off GO Pro so he'll want to video me at some point. Which will only show me things I need to work on.
