Heading to Grand Cayman. Booked diving through Neptune Divers. Anyone got any feedback on their operation?

Also, looking to do a wreck dive. Neptune has recommended the 'Doc Polson' wreck. Per Casey, "There is only really one wreck dive worth diving here and it is located on the West Side of the island. The “Doc Polson” is a fully intact wreck sitting in 50 ft. of water and it is a blast!" Is this the best wreck in Grand Cayman. We are only diving one day, so want to do the best wreck they have on the west side of the island.

Any advice on a good wreck? Is the Polson worth it?

There are very few wrecks of any interest within recreational depths in Grand Cayman.

In addition to the Doc Poulson, there is really only one other wreck I would say is of particular interest. The Balboa sits in the harbor and is quite broken up. Port Authority governs access to this site since divers on that site would limit traffic to and from the cruise tender terminals. Access is usually only permitted at night or on days with no cruise or cargo traffic.

The Oro Verde and The Cali are quite broken as well and not as interesting. The Cali can be done as a shore dive while the Oro Verde is often seen as a point of interest while diving the neighboring reef.

Absolutely, guys. Cayman is definitely NOT known for wreck diving (within rec depths). But, if you're only diving here for 1 day and WANT to do a wreck dive, the Doc Poulson is the only choice, IMHO. Still fully intact and has some nice soft coral growth with lots of critters handing out around it, big and small. If you get bored with the wreck, there's the wall just a little swim to the west or a dense reef just a little swim to the north of it.

If you were more than AOW you could see if Divetech would take you to the "Carrie Lee" south of George Town. It can also be done from shore although it is deeper than recommended recreational limits.

Nipi,

It is apparent that you have some knowledge of the island, but please take this to heart... recreational divers have no business diving the Carrie Lee, and certainly not from shore. To suggest otherwise is a bit reckless.

The Carrie Lee sits along the wall not too far from Sunset House. It is a technical dive. Divers need to plan for sufficiet gas and redundant buoyancy is advised, in part due to the depth. The shallowest end of the wreck is sufficiently deep enough to make narcosis a real hazard. To maintain a clear head trimix is advised. Any diver attempting this dive needs the requisite training and experience.

My post wasn't intended to suggest that an AOW diver dive it from shore. If Divetech still offer it, they'll only take you if you're trimix certified.
