Our last trip to GC was four years ago and this was my fourth trip to GC, with my wife's third and we took friends for their first time. Touchdown at GCM, then Customs and Immigration. Walked along the sidewalk to get the van at Andy's down the street from the airport, except Andy's wasn't there anymore, there was only there, there. Turns out, Andy's is across the street from the airport, behind the parking lot. Got the van, no problem and concentrated on driving on the wrong side of the road. We headed out to the East End to the Reef Resort, with a stop at the Lighthouse for lunch. After check-in, we hit the beach, great to be back in the salt water ocean.

Sunday, was our get our bearings day. Just spent most of the day on the beach and in the water. I dove Ocean Frontiers last time, but tried Red Sail this time, glad I did. Good operation. We ate at Tukka's, which was Portifino's. The food was excellent.

Monday, just made one afternoon dive. My insta-buddy had not dove in six years, but he was okay. He is the one who found the huge green moray eel sticking out of the coral. Great to be back in the crystal clear water with unlimited visibility. I am serious when I say, the visibility is so clear, you can see Mars.

Tuesday, did the two tank morning dive, with the first on the deep wall at 100 feet. Besides scanning the coral, I kept hoping something big would swim by in the distance, but it did not. The second shallow dive on the reef, I found a huge lobster and puffer fish.

Wednesday, was a day off from diving and went to Georgetown with my wife. At at the Breeze's for lunch, food was good. Really hot down there. Two cruise ships were in and parking was a beast, took us about a half hour to find a parking space.

Thursday morning, we drove up to Rum Point. I thought Rum Point was just to drink Rum, but it is a very nice beach and eating area. Later, we made two afternoon dives. I saw a huge lion fish, biggest I have seen. They have been spearing the lion fish and selling them to restaurants as I have heard they are good eats, however, the guide did not have the spear.

Friday, we went to Cabana Bay shopping district on the west side of the island. This is a much more American style shopping district, like Cleveland's Legacy Village or Columbus' Easton. More shops and restaurants will really get it going and I heard Apple may be putting a store in, to show you where they going. Friday afternoon, we found Starfish Beach around Rum Point and got to see the starfish.

Saturday was the only rain day all week. Too bad for the couple who had an outside wedding planned. Returned the van to Andy's and caught the plane for the flight back to Ohio.

Pictures and videos are almost up on my blog at Marshall Karp's Blog. I will have the dive videos up by next week.

Love the East End. Thanks for the report.

thanks for report headed over in November first time on GC. ever dove the Kittiwake? is it worth the time? also what lenses do you recommend for Cayman? wide angle better or more macro?

BUD the Kittiwake is very worth doing also if you can fit it in Stingray City.

AS to what lens there is lots to see U/W on Cayman I would say that no one lens will manage it all.
Wide Angle is good for the Kittiwake,Wall scenics,Schools of Tarpon and Jacks,Etc..
Macro will be very well used for small and portrait type fish shots.

What kind of set up do you have and what lenses are available to you?

Like EastEndDiver love the East End... the North side wall dives are some of the best and many of the southern dive sites offer unique diving...

Kittiwake...I prefer diving on actual wrecks (thus why I love diving in Chuuk [aka Truk Lagoon] ) but I did enjoy diving on the Kittiwake. It is very easy dive and since it is a new site (2 years old) still is in the early stages of marine growth. Here are a few videos I did (very basic done with a Go Pro about 4 months ago)

A fun time is do the early morning snorkel trip to Stingray Sand Bar (as opposed to Stingray City...I actually like the sand bar experience better)....I made this video for the couple that went with Bubble Blocker (BB) and me but gives you good idea of the experience>>

Then about 3 weeks ago we found the silversides and I shot this of BB coming into a swim thru with her infrared focus light on...so I just shot with lights off... pretty cool effect>>>

I am (with our son) back done this coming Saturday and look forward to more great East End diving!

PS... lens... macro or wide angle but there is not one that does both... I can not count the number of time BB has gone down with a macro and needed a wide angle and vis versa. UW photography is a challenge.

BB (and if you go to this link you find her name is Ellen) just started this site and shows many Cayman Island UW pics as well as pics take on other trips in the Caribbean and Pacific basin... and more pics to come
