Grand Cayman: private dive guides

Does anyone know of any dive guides for hire in GC with their own boat? At the risk of sounding like a dive snob, I have to confess that I'm very tired of being stuffed on the cattle boats offered by the usual suspect dive operators. They are all very nice people and do a great job on safety, local knowledge, etc. But, I'm tired of someone else's schedule, tripping over other divers, etc and I would potentially be willing to pay for a better arrangement.

I imagine that any number of smaller dive operators would be happy to let you charter their boat for the day or the week. Try Ambassador, Dive 'n' Stuff, Happy Fish Divers, Peter Milburn, SunDivers, Deep Blue, Wall to Wall & Off the Wall for starters.

Terry and I did the private dive deal this past may in Grand Cayman. It cost us about $800 total bucks....but was well worth it. We used Phil Coley. He was great!!! We stay on the East End, and dive with Ocean Frontiers, but we wanted to dive some West End dive sites on our own.

He picked up the boat, met us in downtown Georgetown, and skippered the boat to the exact dive sites we wanted. Got in 4 dives, and stopped for lunch exactly where we wanted. He pulls the boat up to shore, and helps you to the sand. He is just awesome!!

We got his name and cell from an old friend at OF. If you are interested, email me and I will call him to make sure it is OK to give it out. You will have to tailor your private guide to his days off, but he is unbelievable!!

If you do the math, you pretty much pay the same for 8 dives total, 4 dives each. Maybe a little more, but it is well worth it.
