It doesnt have to be expensive.

Share a condo, eat in and shore dive then its pretty reasonable.

Of course,if you choose to stay at the Ritz Carlton,do 4 boat dives a day and eat out every night in fancy restaurants than a second mortgage would be advisable.

Two I wouldn't recommend are Red Sail or Don Foster's. Both have larger boats and deal more with cruise ship and resort divers. Although they're going to do shallower dives, you could get lost in the crowd. Red Sail also limits dive time by using AL72's - I hate that..

Again, in fairness, Red Sail does not currently deal directly with cruise ships. They haven't had a contract for a couple of years now. They do use Al72's.

Don Foster's does have contracts with a few cruise lines.

In my experience here in GC, cruise ship divers are not placed on the same boat as divers who are staying on the island.

Honestly, I'm not concerned about price, I"m concerned about the experience. I don't care if I have to pay half a million dollars I want to have a GOOD memorable experience :D We're staying at the Coral Stone club in a friend's condo. I believe it's right smack in the middle of 7 mile beach. We'll also have a rental car, so driving to a dive op is not a big deal.

OK! That said call up Sunset House, Speak to Dee, Katie, or Mike and see if you can book with them while you're there. Tell them what you want and they will make sure that you have a good time!! I go there because the team there is fun and very friendly and accomodating. Sunset House has a great house reef that the locals dive on regularly.

If you dive with them, tell Dee that Jeannette says "hi"...

basketcase,

I dove the house reef a couple of times last Jan. while doing an uw photography tutorial with Cathy Church, whose store is located at Sunset House, and it's a good dive site for beginners with a lot of interesting things to see, including fish who are fairly friendly because some of the uw photographer instructors tend to feed them from time to time.

Cayman diving is awesome, but I would encourage you to stay within your 60' depth as a newbie. I think you will want to become confident learning how to dive before you go much deeper than that. LC is even more awesome, in my opinion, but I'd save that until you are AOW certified so that you can comfortably enjoy "going over the wall."

Hi Basketcase,

Have a look at CAYMAN DIVING SCHOOL, they run trips on 6 pack boats and cater to individuals and small groups. They have 2 boats which have both 72's and 80l tanks depending on what you prefer. And although the name stresses otherwise they take both certified divers and run courses from DSD day courses up to instructor level. The whole team is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Plus they dive on three sides of the island - wherever you decide you want to go (weather permitting).

Whatever you decide HAVE FUN and BE SAFE :)
